Our potential, realized.

Why am I running for Westwood School Committee?

As a Westwood School Committee member, I will work for a system that educates the whole child, ensures that every child feels a sense of belonging and is taught to their fullest potential, building for the future while sustaining our academic excellence today.

New(ish) kid in town

In 2018, like so many families before and since, we moved to Westwood for its excellent schools. I’m proud of the education my two boys are receiving at Downey and Thurston and I’m excited to introduce myself and share a bit more about why I’m running for School Committee.

Why I’m qualified for School Committee

A thoughtful, inquisitive listener. An agile, collaborative leader. I have more than 20 years of communications expertise in higher education at both Harvard and MIT. And I know what the next generation needs to compete and succeed after graduation. I’m passionate about public education and have a proven track record of community engagement.

I have had the pleasure of collaborating with JoAnna over the last couple of years on several community endeavors, and am an enthusiastic supporter of her candidacy for the Westwood School Committee. JoAnna is smart, committed, and willing to put her time and energy into strengthening our community. She listens actively, incorporates what she’s heard, and then rolls up her sleeves to help make things happen. As a School Committee member, she would advocate for the overall health and well-being of our students and support diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts. Her extensive knowledge of higher education would be an asset to inform the continuous improvement of our district’s already strong academic outcomes, and her communication skills would strengthen information flows between the community and the School Committee. Please join me in supporting JoAnna for Westwood’s schools!

“… rolls up her sleeves to help make things happen.”

JoAnna was very active on the Portage Collaborative Montessori Parent Committee when she and her family lived in Ohio. She brought a host of well-articulated ideas and a collaborative spirit to the group and successfully led a major fundraising initiative for the school. She is a marketing and communication professional that espouses a desire to be supportive and respectful to the members of the organizations to which she belongs. JoAnna would make a great addition to the Westwood School Committee as her reputation and commitment to education are exemplary.
